500 Club…

March 22, 2010

I tried to get the wrestlers this year to go after the “500 Club” I promised shirts, dinner, and more that that I explained how it would help them be better wrestlers. Well I didn’t have to buy anyone a shirt or dinner, I wish I had!! The goal was to pick 5 takedowns and do them 500 times each. This repetition would make the moves habit and they would be able to hit them on anyone at anytime. Here is another’s article that supports my theory behind the 500 Club from an MMA instructor, Bob Dorris:

Most of the big improvements you’ll make in your martial arts come
from those occasional “Ah Hah!” moments of realization we all get.

So here’s a short and simple one for you to think about today.

What’s the only real difference between you and the greatest skilled
people in martial arts?

It’s the NUMBER OF REPETITIONS they’ve done.

There may be other attributes that give the really phenomenal people
some advantage, but they are secondary, especially for grappling.

I REPEAT… the number one thing that separates you from those you’d
like to be like is repetitions. Just decide what you want to be good
at, and do it as many times as humanly possible.

Don’t make it any more complicated than that.

If you need a roadmap to get you from where you are today to where
you want to be in the future in martial arts, you’ll go a long way
just keeping that one simple idea in mind.

Good training,
Bob Dorris
