The climax of the entire wrestling season is the state wrestling tournament held at the Mckay Events Center in Orem. Thousands flock in to see their wrestlers compete with the very finest in the state of Utah. With a ton of enthusiasm, plenty of nerves, and a will to represent their school, the 8 Grizzly men from Copper Hills arrived with a mission: To be the very best. They wrestled tough, grueling matches for several days. After the first few rounds, the Grizzlies lost 6 of their wrestlers who proudly wrestled their hearts out. Remaining……. none other than the heavyweights, Max Adamson and Zac Jensen.
Both these wrestlers showed up to win it all. Max and Zac beat their first opponents convincingly. Max even defeated a foe from Viewmont that had knocked him out of the placing rounds last year at state. The next round, Zac pounded on Brightons wrestler and pinned him in the 2nd period. Max was matched against Dylan Stadel from Lehi, a returning state runner-up and nemesis for both wrestlers. After a valiant 3 periods, Dylan was the winner by 2 points. Advancing to the third round, Stadel from Lehi now had to prove he could beat two Grizzlies in a row. Zac Jensen wrestled an amazing match giving Stadel everything he had right down to the final few seconds. Stadel dug deep and managed to take down Jensen just before the time ran out. Stadel went on the win the state championship.
Now, with both wrestlers losing to the champion, they had to prove they were not quitters and deserved to be ranked with the best. Max Adamson won his next three matches and Jensen bounced back with a big win in the consolation bracket. When the smoke cleared, Copper Hills found themselves in the unlikely situation. Teammate vs Teammate - once again. Mustering all the strength they had, these two warriors stepped on the mat, shook hands, and represented their school. We, the coaches said nothing as we lined the mat to support these great athletes. After an exciting match, it was Max Adamson who won this time, defeating Zac by a mere point, 5-4.
To crown it all off, these two put aside their passion to win and gave each other a hug on the center of the mat. Truly, a coach could not be more proud than to see such an act of sportsmanship. What an accomplishment for these two. Max Adamson placed third and Zac Jensen placed fourth at states. Their efforts will go down in school history as their pictures will be framed in large plaques and added to the wall of champions in the wrestling room. Their example of determination, sportsmanship, and mental toughness will inspire many future Grizzly champions in the years to come. Congratulations to the parents, wrestlers, coaches, and community!

The Copper Hills Junior Varsity team has been turning some heads as they have n
ow defeated West Jordan, Kearns, Bingham, and Hunter four weeks in a row! Its very exciting to know that we have some talented young wrestlers for the years to come. These guys are working hard and learning fast. Nothing is better than watching a 1st year wrestler come off the mat after pinning a guy saying, “that move really works!”
The JV team needs your support for the JV Open Region Tournament this Saturday held at Hunter High School. They have a great chance of winning it, so don’t miss out! Wrestling begins at 9am.
Just look at this focus!

In the past few weeks, the team has seen its toughest competition yet. The Grizzlies took on teams from all over the western states ranging from Washington to Arizona and every state in between.
First, there was the Rocky Mountain Rumble, a nationally recognized tournament full of over 64 wrestling powerhouses. Our wrestlers competed hard, but all were beaten out before the placement rounds- that is all except for two. Our two heavyweights, Max Adamson and Zac Jensen (both seniors) relentlessly pushed through a grueling 7 matches over 2 days to find themselves facing eachother for 5th and 6th place. However, they were unable to wrestle because of a shoulder injury Adamson sustained in a previous match. The injury default gave Jensen 5th place and Max Adamson 6th place. We were extremely proud of these two wrestlers for placing in such a competitive tournament. Visit this link to see the complete braket sheets and results: RMRBRACKETS
Last weekend, the team then traveled to St George to compete in the Pine View Invitational. This tournament hosted over 35 teams traveling from Las Vegas, Arizona, and northern Utah. We were proud to be the one school representing Salt Lake County. *Each or our wrestlers picked up wins, but in the end- it was once again our HWT still standing. Zac Jensen found himself placed against a returning state champ from Las Vegas in the semi-final round. Jensen simply destroyed him and even pinned him in the final seconds of the third period. It was by far the best wrestling from Jensen yet. The team then waited in anticipation for the last match of the entire tournament, which was well worth the wait. Jensen won in overtime, making him the Pine View champion! * Max Adamson and Ryan Zumwalt were out with injuries.

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you are enjoying every bit of the break. Now would be a great time to express thanks to all of our parents, fans, and supporters of our wrestling program. This year we have had more involvement from parents and fans than ever before! It definetely makes a difference.
We have really encouraged the wrestlers to take advantage of this time to get that winning edge over their opponents. Of course, hard work can be fun too. Just check out how many calories you can burn off doing the following activities for an hour
- Sledding = 514 calories
- Shoveling Snow = 455 calories (ok, maybe not so fun)
- Skiing/Snowboarding = 515 calories
- Weight Lifting = 488 calories
- Running = 688 calories
- Wrestling = 620 calories
- Ice Skating = 520 calories
- Snowmobiling = 244 calories
- Stationary Bike = 600 calories
- Wii Boxing = 310 calories
- Wii Tennis = 341 calories
- Building a Snowman/Throwing Snowballs = Who knows!!
Remember, you have to burn off 3,500 calories more than you consume to lose 1 pound of extra fat. If you can burn about 500 more calories a day then you consume, you can safely lose 1 pound per week.
Watch out for these calorie monsters! They can add up quick
- 1 medium cookie = 70 calories
- 1 small piece of fudge = 90 calories
- 1 12 oz can of soda = 150 calories
- 1 piece of pie = 450 calories (shovel snow an hour to burn this one off!)
- 1 piece of pizza = 210 calories
- 1 handful of potato chips = 200 calories
(Info found at www.mypyramid.gov)
ANYWAYS, NEXT PRACTICE IS SAT DEC 27: 8-10 AM . DONT MISS IT!!!!
